Core Values
We choose to do right by ourselves and our customers, and stand against unethical incentives. We are committed to consistently doing the right thing.
A deep-rooted respect for one another is essential for practical cooperation. We recognize both the value of others and their values, promoting civility and humility through respect.
Our uncompromised ethics and focus on cooperation make transparency equally important. Not one can exist without the other. We will create symbiotic relationships.
Formal education is becoming increasingly burdensome, even as students are more capable than ever of learning theory independently. At the same time, hiring managers in STEM fields are overwhelmed with candidates yet express concern about a lack of practical talent among graduates. Consumers, too, are growing more aware of poor engineering practices and planned obsolescence — often identifying imported parts as cheaply made, and domestically as "engineered to fail."
L’uomo was founded to meet these converging problems head-on: to give students a viable path to skill-building outside traditional academia, and to provide the DIY community with well-designed, high-quality parts made in America. In exchange for the premium of domestic manufacturing, customers receive something imported parts can’t offer — robust engineering documentation, including 3D models, test data, and consistent specifications.
Our brand reflects these values. The name, L’uomo — Italian for "the man" or more philosophically, "mankind" — evokes a legacy of great design, with inspiration from Italian automotive excellence. Our regal logo, a variation of the Star of Macedonia, and our old-fashioned aesthetic reflect a dedication to craft, durability, and repairability.
Above all, L’uomo is built on the principle of mutual benefit: our products serve both the individual and the greater good.
Siamo l’uomo e lavoriamo per l’uomo.
L’uomo LLC is a single member limited liability company based in Lenexa, Kansas. We specialize in the design and manufacture of common industrial and lab tools for students and the Maker/DIY market, pulling from the gap in the market between cheaply manufactured imported products and the aftermarket sales of larger companies. More specifically we specialize in making environmental test equipment and derivative products: kilns, thermocouples, and PID controllers. Currently there are no reliable companies that can provide effective engineering documentation at competitive prices to imported goods on a wide array of products. That’s the goal: enable independent learning through effective engineering documentation. We can’t realistically become a reliable company in all sectors overnight so our long term goals are to expand our scope to encompass tools used in different industries and alongside showcase our superior engineering in a performance based market like automotive.
Leadership
"L'uomo stands for independence: a theory not founded on relationships, but decisions. Our intention, our purpose, is to enable independent learning through tools and documentation to diversify tomorrow's innovators."
